Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Kamal Thapa on Wednesday called on the agitating Madhes-based parties to reconsider their decision of boycotting local level elections scheduled for May 14 and return to the negotiating table.

“On behalf of the government and my party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, I would like to request the Madhes-based parties to reconsider their decision of boycotting polls,” said DPM Thapa while addressing a gathering of his party in Bharatpur. “Let’s try to resolve the outstanding problems through dialogue. Let’s not miss the opportunity of taking people’s right from Singha Durbar to their doorsteps.” Stating that the government failed to address their demand of constitution amendment, the agitating Madhes-based parties have announced protests and vowed to foil May 14 elections.

DPM Thapa said that the government introduced a new constitution amendment bill a few days ago with an aim to address the concerns raised by the Madhes-based parties.
