LG Chem posts biggest quarterly revenue

LG Chem, South Korea’s Number 1 chemical firm, posted its biggest-ever quarterly revenue in the January-March quarter, raising its operating profit to the highest in six years, a regulatory filing showed on Wednesday. Revenue amounted to 6.49 trillion won ($5.69 billion) in the quarter, up 33.1 percent from a year earlier. It was the biggest in the company’s history. Operating profit surged 74.1 percent over the year to 796.9 billion won in the March quarter, posting the biggest in six years. The basic materials division led LG Chem’s first-quarter earnings, logging an operating profit of 733.7 billion won on revenue of 4.5 trillion won. The profit was the highest in the company’s history. The storage battery unit posted an operating loss of 10.4 billion won due to weak demand.
