The Election Commission says logistical preparations for the local level elections scheduled for May 14 have reached the final stage.

Ballot paper and voter ID printing as well as ballot box mobilisation are moving ahead as per the plan, said the EC.

The EC is printing 16 million ballot papers.

According to Nawaraj Dhakal, joint secretary at the EC, voter ID cards have already been printed.

The EC is planning to distribute voter ID cards on May 11, 12 and 13 from the polling stations.

Voters themselves or their family member can collect the ID cards, according to the EC.

Ballot boxes from China also have already arrived from China and the EC, which already had 65,000 ballot boxes, now will have 95,000 units which will be enough for the polls.

The ballot boxes have started to reach district election offices.

Bigger ballot boxes have been purchased for districts where number of parties participating in the polls is relatively higher.

According to the EC, the final voter list was ready after adjusting the new address of voters per the new local structure.

According to the updated list of the EC, there are 14,054,482 registered voters across the country for May 14 elections. The EC has already uploaded the list on its website where voters can see their names.

“We have started sending the voter list to districts as well,” said Surya Sharma, spokesperson for the EC.

The EC has already set up offices for chief election officers in 75 districts.

The election body now plans to open offices for election officers in by April 25.

EC officials said that going by the logistical preparations it has made, there won’t be any problem in holding local elections on May 14. (PR)
