With the second anniversary of the 2015 earthquake approaching, Housing Recovery and Reconstruction Platform (HRRP) is set to host a public screening featuring a cluster of short films at Patan Durbar Square this Friday. The short films will feature quake survivors who will recount stories of recovery and resilience in the wake of the quakes on screen.
HRRP is a platform for coordination, strategic planning and technical guidance to agencies involved in recovery and reconstruction and supports the Government of Nepal in coordinating the national reconstruction programme.
Speaking to the Post, recovery adviser at HRRP Siobhan Kennedy said, “The screening features very personal stories of the survivors, from how they were affected by the earthquake to how they are currently healing themselves. We have stories from people like engineers, businessmen, masons, to people who are slowly rebuilding their own homes.” She added, “We also have a story of a person who lived to see both the 1934 and 2015 earthquake—as well as a story from NRA CEO Govinda Raj Pokharel. Through this screening, we want to share among the public the heartening stories of the quake survivors’ journey towards recovery and resilience.”
Following the Patan show, the event will also be held at Kathmandu Durbar Square and Bhaktapur Durbar Square, on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
