AUS market ends week on a high

- Xinhua, SYDNEY

Apr 22, 2017-

The Australian market ended the week higher on Friday, with more stability in base metal prices driving the index. At the close of trade the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 32.70 points or 0.56 percent at 5,854.10, while the broader All Ordinaries index rose 31.20 points or 0.53 percent at 5,885.60. “The main feature of the day was a good bounce in mining stocks led by stronger metals prices,” CMC Markets’ chief market analyst Ric Spooner told Xinhua. Financial stocks also did well and the energy sector saw a recovery after being sharply lowered in early trade this morning. But on the negative side, Spooner said: “There was a steep drop in Coca-Cola Amatil who unveiled a profit warning following disappointing sales this year in their Australian business.”
