Apr 22, 2017-
The Baburam Bhattarai-led Naya Shakti Nepal and the Upendra Yadav-headed Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal have formed a coordination committee to merge the two parties, with the two leaders deciding to unite soon.
The unification on Thursday of six Madhes-based parties to form the Rastriya Janata Party has created pressure on Bhattarai and Yadav to unify their forces.
The party unity coordination committee would expedite the process of unification. Issuing a joint statement on Friday, the two leaders said they would lead the unification process to a decisive conclusion soon, continuing with their working alliance on all issues.
According to the statement, the talks team has been seeking uniformity on the policy, principle, ideology and structure of the unified party.
Meanwhile, a two-day central executive committee meeting of the Naya Shakti Nepal concluded on Friday, deciding to focus on preparations for the local level polls while giving continuity to the party’s fight for an electoral symbol. The meeting entrusted the party’s political committee led by Bhattarai to take an appropriate decision on party unity.
NSN organisational department head Devendra Poudel said the three-member unity coordination committee has Bhattarai, Yadav and Ashok Rai in it.
A central committee meeting of the Yadav-led SSFN would also come up with a decision on merger.
On leadership, Poudel said portfolios of the three leaders would be managed with Bhattarai at helm.
