As part of the performance, the artists wrapped themselves in plastic, with placards labelled with slogans such as ‘Kathmandu banyo Hilomandu’, ‘Rajdhani banyo Laajdhani’ and ‘Bhatkaaune matra ki Banaune Pani?’, among others, criticising how Kathmandu was losing its essence to pollution.
The event, the second leg of the Kantipur Film Academy’s protest against pollution campaign, was organised on the occasion of International Earth Day 2017.
The performance was choreographed by Tanka Chaulagain, artistic director of the Academy and featured student-actors Arun Chhetri, Sanjog Rasailee, Kamal Bohara, Mohan Jaisi, Abhinit Chaulagain, Rakshya Karki and Sajana Thapa, among others.
“We organised the Chabahil show encouraged by the interest the audience showed during our first leg of the protests in Tinkune. The main purpose of our shows is to draw the attention of the authorities towards the effects of the pollution,” said Chaulagain.
“With the successful first leg in Tinkune, we took a slightly different approach this time around. We are on a quest to raise awareness and protest government’s lack of interest in working to mitigate pollution, and will continue until the issue gets addressed,” Chaulagain added.
