Issuing a press statement on Saturday, organisers Periwinkle Service said the event “has been put off indefinitely.” “The May 14 elections is too close to the series.
The scheduled second match on April 29 also coincided with the nomination announcement for local level polls. So keeping in view the security issues after necessary discussions with security agencies, we have decided to postpone the tournament,” said the organisers. “We are, however, committed to organise the series at favourable time in near future.”
The organisers had announced the friendly series between Nepali national cricket team represented by Gorkha Rhinos and Lankan Lions. The organisers had claimed the Lions would be represented by former Sri Lankan internationals Sanath Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Upul Chandana and Kaushalya Weeraratne.
The organisers had also confirmed the arrival of current Sri Lankan internationals in Upul Tharanga, Rangana Herath, Dilshan Munaweera, Farveez Maharoof, Sachithra Senan-ayake and Chamara Silva.
