Annual drive for education begins today
This year’s focus will be on Goal 4 of Sustainable Development Goals which states ‘Ensure Inclusive and Quality Education for all and Promote lifelong learning’
Apr 26, 2017-
Global Action Week for Education (GAWE), an international annual campaign led by the Global Campaign for Education, is organising a policy-level discussion about education in federalism and accountability of the state from Wednesday. The discussion will be followed by mass demonstrations of civil societies to address significance of education in several places across the country.
The campaign will be coordinated by National Campaign for Education (NCE) Nepal, a common network of national and international organisations working for education in the country. This year, GAWE’s focus will be on Goal 4 of Sustainable Development Goals which states “Ensure Inclusive and Quality Education for all and Promote lifelong learning”.
Preceding the celebrations, the NCE forwarded 12-point demands to highlight the responsibilities of the government and participation of the public in education. As well as a non-discriminatory and less-privatised education system, the demands include non political interference in schools and colleges and implementation of the existing laws that define educational institutions as the zone of peace.
A district level discussion will also be held on education policy and accountability of the state with various stakeholders. Adjustment meetings with the government and the civil society will be held to raise awareness about the campaign.
