Journalists Nepal, Thapa awarded

The UN Women and Media Advocacy Group honoured Janak Nepal, a Nepalgunj-based reporter for Kantipur Publications, and Kabita Thapa, a photographer for Gorkhapatra daily, with the Gender Responsive Journalism Awards on Wednesday. Nepal was awarded for his story, “Aago Sahane Haru”  published in Nepal magazine on September 4, 2016. The story was selected by a jury from among 118 news stories published in different dailies, magazines and online news portals. Likewise, Thapa was picked the winner for a photograph she had taken of a young mother carrying a cooking gas cylinder with her child sitting on it, which was published in gorkhapatra.com on November 29, 2016. The awards included cash prize of Rs 25,000 each and certificates of honour. The awards were handed over by the Minister for Information and Communication Surendra Kumar Karki. (PR)
