Nepal participated in the joint meeting of three Conferences of Parties held in Geneva from April 24 to May 5.

The joint meeting underscored the need for effective implementation of the provisions of all the three conventions--13th CoP of Basel Convention, 8th CoP of Stockholm Convention and 8th CoP of Rotterdam Convention. The regional and contact groups held their meetings for discussing issues related to the three conventions on hazardous chemicals and waste. Nepal has claimed membership of the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention.

In the joint meeting, discussions were held on the budget for the next two years, technical and economic cooperation, effectiveness of the convention’s implementation, and the benefits for the least developed countries and developing countries. The conference endorsed the proposal to discourage illegal trans-boundary movement and illegal trade of chemical and hazardous substances.
