Sherpa, Dhondup emerge victors

The 11 handicap player Sherpa finished with 38 stableford points - 17 on the front nine and 21 on the back nine — to claim the nett trophy at the end of the first round. Dhondup collected 37 gross points to secure top finish in the gross division of the Series played under ¾ stableford handicap format.
Bijay Bahadur Shrestha earned second position in the nett category on count back after he was tied on 37 points with Surendra Phuyal. Shrestha, however, held superiority over Phuyal on the basis of 20 points earned on the back nine to the latter’s 18 points. Tashi Tshiring secured second place in the gross section with 31 points.
In the women’s section, Rekha Ghimire secured first position with 32 points finishing ahead of Ujin Shim. Lt Gen KNS Thapa secured top finish inthe senior section (60 years) while Maj Gen Mahesh Bikram Karki was the runner-up with 31 points.
Maj Hem Kumar Tamang and Prakash Gurung won closest to the pin and longest drive awards respectively. Prithivi Malla took home most birdies award on count back with three birdies under his belt.
The Series will feature two more rounds on August and October. Golfers securing top 10 finishes in nett and top five in gross categories will be awarded points. And the players earning highest nett and gross points at the end of the Series will be declared Carlsberg Golf Series nett and gross champions. The top three finishers in each round of both categories will be allotted 100, 70 and 50 points respectively.
In total, 88 players took part in the tournament. Director Marketing of Gorkha Brewery Baibhav Sharma, Sales Director Kajiman Subba, Gokarna Golf Club President Suhrid Ghimire among other distributed prizes to winners.
