The meeting of the Legislature-Parliament scheduled for 1pm on Sunday has been postponed for May 18.The meeting of the Legislature-Parliament scheduled for 1pm on Sunday has been postponed for May 18.
Issuing a notice, the Parliament Secretariat postponed the meeting for May 18 3pm citing ‘special reason’.
The announcement means Parliament will sit for a meeting only after the first phase of local level elections slated for May 14.
Stating that the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki had entered Parliament as per the due process, Speaker Onasari Gharti said, “The matter how to forward the impeachment motion is the internal and special right of Parliament as it has already entered Parliament.”
The impeachment motion against CJ Karki—backed by signatures of 249 lawmakers as per Article 101 (b) of the constitution—was registered at the Parliament Secretariat on April 30.
Expressing the view that the constitution has clearly mentioned about the duty, responsibilities and rights of the executive, legislature and judiciary as per the principle of the separation of powers, Gharti said that all three bodies should remain within their constitutional limit as per the provision of the constitution.
“Tussle among major organs of the state would have adverse effect on institutionalising the democracy and on the upcoming local-level elections,” said the Speaker.
