More than 1,000 Nepalis are returning home via the Nepalgunj border from India on a daily basis to cast their votes in the local polls being held on Sunday.
“My family members told me to arrive by Saturday evening,” said Jit Bahadur Budha of Salyan, adding that he would go back to India shortly after the vote.
According to the Area Police Office, Jamunaha, the inward flow of Nepali workers has increased of late. Sub-inspector Sudhir Khadka, in charge of the police unit, said hundreds of youths from Surkhet, Dailekh, Jajarkot, Kalikot, Jumla, Humla, Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan, and Jajarkot, among other districts of provinces 5 and 6, go to Indian cities in search of jobs. Usually, they come back during major festivals, and plantation and harvest seasons.
