Leaders of major political parties have remarked that the success of the first phase of local level elections ensures the second round of polls scheduled for June 14.
After casting his vote at Maitidevi in Kathmandu on Sunday, NC leader and Health Minister Gagan Thapa claimed that this vote has guaranteed the second phase of local polls.
“The confusion over provincial and federal polls has also been over,” said Thapa, observing that this polling had created enthusiasm among the voters for next month’s election.
Senior CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha also had similar views. He remarked that this round of vote had given confidence to the parties, which would contribute to the success of the second-phase elections.
Shrestha sees this vote as a leap forward in implementation of the constitution promulgated in 2015.
NC General Secretary Prakash Man Singh said the overwhelming participation of the people in Sunday’s vote would inspire the people of the Tarai to make the second-phase polls a success too.
Rastriya Janata Party Nepal leader Keshav Jha claimed that his party would join the June 14 elections even if the parties only commit in writing to amending the constitution later.
The RJP-N is prepared to register itself with the Election Commission on Wednesday and has demanded umbrella as its election symbol.
With RJP-N’s participation, there will remain no doubts over the success of the June 14 vote since the Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal, another of the agitating parties, is already in the poll process.
