The four-day-long debate tournament, incorporating trainings, group stage, knockout rounds and grand finale, has a total of 24 teams each with two participants participating at the competition.
DNN is Nepal’s national debate organisation that works to institutionalise debating culture in Nepal.
Speaking to the Post about the tournament, chairperson of DNN Pradeep Ghimire said, “We have been organising various debate tournaments since last few years and we have seen that the participation of women in these tournaments is comparatively low. So, this tournament has been brought forth as an attempt to provide a sustainable platform to appreciate womanhood in debating community by empowering them as well as to advocate for issues and policies regarding women.”
The first day of the tournament hosted a workshop where trainers from Bangladesh, Philippines and Nepal trained the participants for the competition.
The event will be judged by national and international adjudicators, under the leadership of Nishma Gautam from Nepal and Raad Sharar from Bangladesh.
The finale of the tournament will take place on Saturday.
