Four Chepang candidates have won local level elections in Makwanpur and Dhading districts.
Chandra Singh Chepang of the CPN (Maoist Centre) was elected chairman of Raksirang-5, Singhalal Chepang of CPN-UML won election in Raksirang-6 and Kul Bahadur Chepang of Nepali Congress was elected the chair of Raksirang-7.
Surendra Chepang of the Nepali Congress was elected the ward chairman of Gajuri Village Council-4 in Dhading district.
Surendra garnered 259 votes against CPN-UML candidate Bagar Bahadur Tamang’s 239.
“I will work for betterment of my village. There’s no motorable road in our village. I will also take initiatives to provide education to Chepang children and help quake survivors in their resettlement,” Surendra said after victory.
Chepang people are facing water shortages in their settlements after the devastating quakes of 2015. They said a majority of water sources dried up after the disaster. “People have to walk several hours in search of potable water,” said Surendra, adding that he would construct a water supply system for the villagers.
