Vote counting has been stalled since Sunday mid-night after some CPN (Maoist Centre) cadres allegedly tore down some ballot papers. Police said they have arrested two Maoist Centre cadres for their alleged involvement in the incident.
The probe committee, headed by Geeta Prasad Timsina, joint attorney general at the election body, has a Home Ministry joint secretary and a deputy inspector general of police as members.
The committee has been given until Wednesday to submit its report, said the EC in a press release.
Counting of votes from 27 of 29 wards of the Bharatpur Metropolitan City, where CPN-UML’s Devi Gyawali and Maoist Centre’s Renu Dahal are in fray for the mayoral post, has already been completed.
