Subba, Bharati claim double gold

Subba won the 100m butterfly in 1:07.44 minutes to finish ahead of Ugyen Sherpa and Nassir Hussain of Lincoln School. Sherpa timed 1:12.35 and Hussain clocked 1:20.13 to finish the distance. Subba also pushed Lincoln School to silver and bronze after timing 33.15 seconds for 50m backstroke gold.
Alexander Shah ended up second with 34.37 seconds, just .13 seconds ahead of schoolmate Jarrah Budd. Bharati finished the women’s 100m butterfly in 1:20.44 minutes. She got the better of Duana Lama, who timed 1:20.78, of John Dewey School and schoolmate Shreetika Singh (1:21.63).
The 2016 Rio Olympian Sofia G Shah was a distant fifth in the 100m butterfly after she clocked 1:32.12. Bharati then won the 50m backstroke in 37.88 seconds, this time leaving behind her schoolmate Singh (37.97 seconds) for a silver. Shah ended up third in the event clocking 38.12 seconds.
Shah also had to be content with a bronze in the women’s 100m breaststroke after Tisha Shakya of Lincoln took gold with a timing of 1:29.75. Lama was once again restricted to silver finishing the distance in 1:32.71. Shah timed 1:34.62 minutes. The only delight for Shah came in the 50m freestyle where she timed 29.91 seconds to strike the gold medal.
Lincoln’s Shakya made a runner-up finish with the timing of 30.99 and Singh was pushed to bronze after she finished in 31.87 seconds. Devesh Manandhar of The British College won the men’s 50m freestyle in 27.25 seconds as Subba finished behind him with a timing of 27.28. Shuvam Shrestha took bronze in 27.50 seconds.
Shrestha won the men’s 100m breastroke in 1:13.50 minutes beating Kiran Karki (1:18.32) and Bedagya Raj Joshi (1:29.47)
In the age group category, Niharika Tuladhar of Lincoln struck triple gold, winning the girls’ 17 years 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke titles. Her schoolmate Singh was runner-up in all the three events.
Subba also won the boys 17 years 50m butterfly in 29.53 second for a new age group record in the category. Subba broke the previous mark of 31.50 seconds set by Ugyen Sherpa during the 2016 NSA Cup in Kathmandu.
Lincoln’s Budd claimed the boys 17 years 50m breaststroke in 39 seconds. His Lincoln team combining of Ugyen, Hussain and Alexander won the 17 years boys’ 4x100m relay gold.
