Earlier, the government had rescheduled the second phase of voting for June 23 from June 14. But following concerns from the members of the Muslim community that voting on June 23 would cause inconvenience to them as they will be concluding the month-long Ramadan festival on that day, the government decided to reschedule the polls again.
A Muslim delegation on Tuesday had called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to draw his attention to the Ramadan festival and the inconvenience they could face if elections were held on June 23, as they will conclude the monthlong festival on that day which is Friday.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Wednesday made public the schedule for June 28 elections. Voting will take place in 41 districts of Provinces 1, 3, 5 and 7 on June 28 to elect local representatives at 461 units.
The final list of candidates will be published on June 19 and the same day the EC will allot electoral symbols to the candidates.
Parties and candidates will have one week for election campaigning until June 25, thereafter a silent period of 24 hours will come into force, the EC said.
