CMG Sankata hammered Brigade Boys Club 8-0 to strengthen their chances of qualifying to the quarter-finals of the Lalit Memorial U-18 Championship from Group D at the ANFA Complex on Thursday.
Sankata Club have a maximum six points from two games, while Nepal Police are next on three points from one game in the Group ‘D’ standings. BBC appear set for early elimination after two straight loses. The other team in the pool Morang are also yet to open their account.
Lumbini FC also took a huge stride towards the quarter-finals from Group ‘C’ after a 2-0 win over Himalayan Sherpa Club. Lumbini have six points from two matches, while Himalayan Sherpa have three.
Dipesh Ale Magar scored four goals alone for Sankata. Ale Magar scored in the seventh, 31st, 48th and 77th minutes. Ranjit Gurung (13th, 21st ), Laxman Gurung ( 89th) were also on the scoresheet for Sankata. Subash Giri of BBC also concede an own goal in the 51st minute. BBC were reduced to 10 men when they lost their skipper Anil Maharjan in the 68th minute for a verbal tirade against the referee.
Sankata Coach Sugan Tandukar credited luck for his side to score so many goals. “Almost all the attempts we made were converted into goals. They are in no way a weaker team but we were extremely lucky to record such a big win,” added Tandukar. BBC coach Ujjan Shrestha was confused over his team’s such a poor display. “We are not the team as the scoreline suggests. Its only that we could not play football today,” said Shrestha.
