Govt has nothing to do with EC decision: Minister Nayak
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Shankar Nayak has clarified that the government has nothing to do with the decision of the Election Commission.Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Shankar Nayak has clarified that the government has nothing to do with the decision of the Election Commission.
Addressing a function in Bhaktapur on Sunday, Minister Nayak claimed
that the government could not interfere in the activities of the constitutional body.
Minister Nayak was referring to alleged government influence on EC’s Saturday’s decision by UML leaders.
“Government cannot influence and interfere in the issues of an independent constitutional body like Election Commission,” Nayak clarified, adding that the main opposition UML had been attacking Renu Dahal ever since filed her candidacy from the CPN (Maoist Centre) for the post of mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
Maintaining that the government had said it would uphold any decision of the constitutional body long before the EC decision, Nayak urged the main opposition to accept the verdict of the independent constitutional body.
“The UML need to understand the incident as there were examples of re-polling in the past when UML cadres tore the ballot papers. There was no option of re-polling as per the law once the ballots were not clear,” he added.
