India, China extend congratulations
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Sher Bahadur Deuba on his election to the post of the prime minister. “Called Shri Sher Bahadur Deuba to congratulate him on being elected the Prime Minister of Nepal. I conveyed my best wishes to Shri Deuba for peace, prosperity and progress in Nepal under his leadership,” Modi said in a tweet.
During the conversation, Modi also invited Deuba to visit India at a convenient time. Matters like upcoming local polls and others also were discussed.
Soon after his election to the post of prime minister, Deuba said he would maintain good relations with both India and China.
Later in the evening, Chinese envoy Yu paid a courtesy call on Deuba at his residence in Budhanilkantha and extended congratulations.
During the meeting, the Chinese ambassador hoped that the traditional relations between Nepal and China will strengthen further. She said that China would continue its cooperation with Nepal in various fields and support in Nepal’s development endeavours.
