Chickenpox outbreaks hit Doti schools

The airborne disease, caused by Varicella zoster virus, has mostly affected the children in the southern part of the district, including Gaira, Jorayal and Goganpani areas.
Suresh Awasthi, a teacher of Amar Deep School in Dipayal, said at least 12 students contracted chickenpox in his school.
According to doctors at Shaileshwori Hospital, five to seven people have been visiting the hospital a day with chickenpox symptoms.
Dr JB Gupta of the hospital said chickenpox often starts with a fever, headache, sore throat, or stomachache. These symptoms may last for a few days, with fever. It causes red, itchy skin rashes that usually appear first on the abdomen or back and face, and then spreads everywhere else on the body. “If the patients take proper diet and maintain hygiene, the disease can be controlled in 5-7 days.”
