According to a source, Indian Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri discussed the political situation in Nepal and PM Deuba’s visit to India, most likely after the polls, during the meeting.
During his call to congratulate Deuba after his election as the prime minister on June 7, Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi had extended an invitation for a visit to the southern neighbour.
Likewise, Chinese Ambassador Yu Hong discussed various bilateral issues, including ways to further strengthen Nepal-China ties and expand mutual cooperation, with PM Deuba during the meeting, according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
These are the first meetings between ambassadors and PM Deuba since he became the prime minister on June 7.
The meetings come a day after the government postponed local level elections in Province 2 until September 18.
The decision though was taken as part of the government’s effort to bring the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) on board the poll process, it has stoked more confusion as the agitating party has rejected the move.
