The people at Tingla of Necha Salyan Village Council in Solukhumbu have announced to boycott the June 28 elections as a protest against local restructuring. The people at Tingla of Necha Salyan Village Council in Solukhumbu have announced to boycott the June 28 elections as a protest against local restructuring. Local political parties have also supported the protest by not fielding candidates for the second phase of local level elections.
The residents of Tingla staged a demonstration in Salleri, the district headquarters, on Sunday, expressing dissatisfaction to the decision of the Local Level Restructuring Commission to incorporate their village, formerly Tingla VDC, in Necha Salyan Village Council. Nine demonstrators were arrested.
The Tingla locals staged yet another demonstration on Monday, demanding immediate release of the villagers and revision to the commission’s decision.
Stating that the administrative centre of Necha Salyan Village Council is not located at a convenient distance, the Tingla have demanded that their village should be made a part of Solududhkunda Municipality instead.
Spending one whole day just to reach the village council centre is not feasible, said Man Bahadur Karki, a Tingla local.
He added that the commission did not consider their recommendation while delineating the local units.
