The National Human Rights Commission has said it would increase its vigilance on possible human rights violations in the lead up to the second phase of local level elections.

The NHRC plans to deploy over 30 teams, which will cover all the 35 districts where the elections are being held on June 28, the NHRC said in a statement.

Considering  the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal’s decision to disrupt the elections, NHRC Spokesperson Mohna Ansari said, the rights body would increase vigilance to ensure that law and order is maintained and peaceful protests are allowed.

“We’ve received complaints that male police arrested female protesters, which should not happen,” she Ansari. “The protesters should also engage in protests peacefully.” (PR)
