Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal, Rastriya Janamukti Party, Sanghiya Limbuwan Manch, Naya Shakti-Nepal, Sanghiya Khumbuwan Loktantrik Party, CPN (Marxist Leninist) and CPN (Samyukta) signed an agreement with the Maoist Centre on Thursday to forge an electoral alliance.
As per the agreement, the seven parties will support the Maoist Centre’s mayoral candidate, Aindra Bikram Begha, in the June 28 election.
Father, son vying for same position
PYUTHAN: A father and son duo is running for the post of ward chairperson of Pyuthan Municipality-9 in Pyuthan. Bharat Bahadur KC and his eldest son, Bachun KC, will be competing in the June 28 election from Nepali Congress and Rastriya Prajatantra Party respectively. Bachun KC said since he was nominated by the RPP to the same post for which his father was vying from the NC, he had no option but to accept his father as his political rival. He added that he loved and respected his father all the same.
Naya Shakti-Nepal candidate defects
NAWALPARASI: A Naya Shakti-Nepal candidate for the post of ward chairperson of Palhinandan Village Council-6 in Nawalparasi has defected to the Nepali Congress (NC). Issuing a press statement on Thursday, Chandramani Chaudhary said that he decided to join the NC as the party had played an instrumental role in constitution promulgation. He also said that he would be helping the NC candidate Rajendra Kumar Sahani in the election. Naya Shakti has not announced another candidate to replace Chaudhary.
6 RJP-N men held
NAWALPARASI: Police arrested six Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) members for carrying out anti-election activities in Parasi, the district headquarters of Nawalparasi, on Thursday. RJP-N Vice Chairman Govinda Chaudhary; district coordinator Puran Chaudhary, and members Radheraman Pandey, Bijay Agrahari, Om Prakash Chaudhary and Abhimanyu Yadav were arrested for trying to disrupt the election campaigns of other parties and undermine the June 28 elections , said police. Earlier on Saturday, as many as 26 RJP-N cadres were arrested for staging anti-election protests. (PR)
