CIAA nabs engineer with bribe

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday arrested a government engineer in Chhinchu, Surkhet, for taking bribe. 

According to Meghnath Sapkota, an information officer at the CIAA, Durga Dutta Kharel of Regional Monitoring and Inspection Office in Surkhet was caught red-handed with Rs 87,000 bribe at a Chhinchu-based hotel. The engineer had allegedly taken the money from “a client” promising to approve his work completion reports related to drinking water projects.

Sapkota said Kharel had asked Dal Bahadur Gharti, an assistant technician, to collect the bribe money. 

The anti-graft team arrested Kharel and Gharti while the latter was handing over the money he had collected from “the client”.

The CIAA has intensified inspection and monitoring in the district following 

complaints from the service seekers that the technicians had been demanding commission from the contractors of ongoing projects to prepare the work completion
