CJ hearing process begins
The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee has started the hearing process for the appointment of Acting Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli as the chief justice. The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee has started the hearing process for the appointment of Acting Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli as the chief justice.
A meeting of the PHSC on Sunday decided to begin the process by calling for complaints against the nominee to be registered within the next 10 days. “The committee has decided to issue a public notice for complaints against Parajuli, who was recommended for the post of the chief justice,” PHSC Chairman Kul Bahadur Gurung said after the meeting. The PHSC will study the complaints and quiz him at its meeting before endorsing the recommendation.
The Constitutional Council on June 29 unanimously recommended senior most Justice Parajuli for the top apex court post. He has been working as the acting CJ after Sushila Karki retired on June 6. Since there was a controversy over Parajuli’s date of birth, most complaints are expected to be registered on this issue. Holding a meeting of the Judicial Council on June 13, Parajuli endorsed his revised date that ensures his longer term as the chief of the judiciary.
The meeting of the council maintained his date of birth as April 28, 1953. Former CJ Karki had decided it to be August 5, 1952.
