Speaking during the launch of Nepalma Press Swatantrata (Press Freedom in Nepal), a book written by Mahendra Bista, president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Deuba said media persons should professionally and judiciously exercise the freedom of press guaranteed by the constitution.
“Democracy is sustained by press freedom and vice versa,” Deuba noted. The achievements of the people’s movement would not have been possible without proactive support of the press, he added. National Human Rights Commission Chairman Anup Raj Sharma stressed that press should be free of bias.
The book explores the themes of democracy and press freedom, security of journalists, and the present situation of media in Nepal.
