Tamang siblings win yet again

Tamang siblings Ratnajit and Nangsal claimed singles titles as Tribuvan Army Club (TAC) dominated the sixth Pushpa Lal Memorial Open National Badminton Championships on Tuesday.
Out of nine titles on offer, the Army club claimed seven with Ratnajit and Nangsal completing the formalities to secure the top honours. Defending champion Ratnajit sidelined his teammate Nabin Shrestha in the men’s singles final winning 23-21, 21-17. In another all-TAC final, Nangsal overcame Amita Giri 21-14, 19-21, 21-8 to secure the women’s singles title. The winners and runners-up in both the categories won Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
TAC also won the final of the men’s and women’s doubles, boys and girls U-17 and girls U-15 singles. Ratnajit and his singles competitor Shrestha won the men’s doubles, beating Nepal Police Club (NPC) duo Bishnu Katuwal and Dipesh Dhami 21-18, 21-18. Nangsal earlier combined with Anu Maya Rai to beat Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club pair Puja Shrestha and Yam Kumari Gurung 21-11, 16 -21, 21-14.
Prafulla Maharjan hammered his TAC clubmate Pravin Lingthep 21-9, 21-16 in the U-17 boys final, while Rasila Maharjan won both the U-15 and U-17 girls’ categories. Maharjan beat Ranjana Bhatta of Zest Badminton Academy 21-12, 21-17 in the U-15 and Sima Rajbanshi of Birat Badminton Club 21-10, 21- 6 in the U-17 final. In the boys U-15 singles, Pemba Sherpa of Lalitpur rallied from a set down to beat Gokul Zhora of Kanchanpur 21-23, 21-16, 21-15. The winners and runners-up in age-categories got Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000.
Shyam Parajuli and Nabin Babu Shrestha of Annapurna Badminton Club won the veterans (45 years) title. For the first time, the event—earlier played between top ranked players—was made open for all shuttlers this year.
