Nepali Congress to hear from Province 2 leaders ahead of polls

NC Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel said the party’s representatives from the districts, district presidents, central working committee members and lawmakers from the province have been invited to the meeting. Prime Minister and party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior party leaders and office bearers will take stock of the NC’s situation in the province.
The local level elections have been held in six provinces while the polls are taking place in Province 2 on September 18. In the gathering, the NC leaders and cadres will assess the position of the party and that of others in the eight Tarai districts in order to devise a strategy for the third phase of local polls.
The largest party in Parliament, NC comes behind the UML in the local polls. At a time when the plains-based Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal is demanding constitution amendment ahead of the September polls, this will also be an opportunity for the NC leadership to hear from the local leaders. Congress leaders say the results of the second-phase vote have taught them a lesson.
