The government has started the process of distributing housing aid to the families affected by the 2014 landslide in Jure, Sindhupalchok.

The landslide-displaced families, who have been taking shelter in Myagneside, Koleni, Kalleri and Dabiphant areas, will receive aid on par with the victims of the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, said officials at the Urban Development and Building Construction Division Office (UDBCO). 

So far the office has signed the housing aid agreement with 10 families from Ramche of Barhabise Municipality and Makha of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality. 

Yubaraj Paudel, chief engineer at the UDBCO, said 122 families who were rendered homeless by the landsldie will receive the aid after agreement signing.

Those families who also lost their land in the landslide shall receive Rs 50,000 in addition to the housing aid to purchase land. The government has announced Rs 300,000 housing aid to quake victims, which they are entitled to receive in three instalments. 

Besides, the local administration is also planning to distribute donations that were collected in the wake of the landslide to the affected families. 

Around Rs 22 million, which was collected as donation for the Jure landslide victims, remains unused at the office of the District Disaster Management Committee.

15 Tehrathum settlements at landslide risk

Around 15 settlements in nine rural municipalities of Tehrathum are vulnerable to landslides, according to a recent study of the Natural Disaster Rescue Committee and Red Cross.  

Chief District Officer Bednath Khanal said the Natural Disaster Rescue Committee has been organising various awareness programmes and teaching preventive methods to the people residing in the landslide-prone areas.
