The second largest party in Parliament also requested the commission to ensure that people get to register their names without hassles.
A delegation led by deputy leader of UML Parliamentary Party Subas Nembang on Monday met Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav at the EC headquarters in Kantipath.
“We have asked the EC to ensure by facilitating the process that a maximum number of people register as voters,” Nembang told journalists after meeting the election officials. According to him,
CEC Yadav said the commission was positive about the party’s concerns and that it would do everything possible to encourage people’s participation in the election process.
In the meeting, UML leaders stressed the need for holding provincial and parliamentary elections by January 21, as provisioned in the constitution.
The party has started preparations for the local elections in Province 2. The UML has directed its district committees to actively engage in the voter list updating process and to make necessary arrangements for the vote within the party structure.
