The food grains provided by the World Food Programme (WFP) were meant to be distributed as part of Food for Work (FfW) programme. But they have started to rot in warehouses before they could reach the beneficiaries.
There are 40 metric tonnes of foodstuffs stored at the Uhiya warehouse in Chumbanubri and 55 metric tonnes at Sirdibash warehouse in Dharche.
Sitasma Thapa, information officer of the WFP, assured that the food grains that have gone bad will not be distributed in the earthquake-hit areas.
Bug infestation and mishandling during transportation or storage could have spoilt the food grains, she added.
Under the FfW programme, the WFP distributes 150 kg of rice and 27 kg of pluses to the quake victims for donating 40 days of their labour in various local development projects like rural road and school building constructions.
The programme is being run in Sirdibash, Uhiya, Kashigaun, Laprak and Gumda.
