The godown belonging to KL Dugar Group in Bhujaigaun caught fire at around 4pm. The security personnel contained the fire with the help of four fire engines three hours after the incident.
A fire engine of Nepalgunj Airport was also used as three fire engines of Nepalgunj, Kohalpur and Gulariya could not douse the inferno. The fire engines could not reach the incident site on time as the firefighters were not on duty. “We went to the house of the fire engine employees and brought them to the incident site to bring the raging fire under control,” said Superintendent of Police Tek Prasad Rai. While the cause of the fire is still unclear, it is suspected to have been sparked by a short-circuit inside a section of the godown where cooking oil had been stored. The warehouse was pulled down using two excavators to prevent the fire from spreading to the wheat store.
Pradip Chhachhed, manager of the group, claimed that properties worth more than Rs10 million were destroyed in the incident.
