Prez, VP to be spared legal action for acts in office
Rs150,450 President’s monthly salary; Rs108,030 for the VP
Jul 25, 2017-
The government on Monday presented a bill in the Legislature-Parliament seeking to exempt legal action against the President and the Vice President for their acts while in service.
The bill to fix the remuneration and other facilities for the head of state and the deputy provisions barring any legal cases against them for their activities while in office even after their retirement.
The bill tabled by Minister for Labour Farmullah Mansoor had no reservations from lawmakers. The erstwhile government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal had registered the bill in the House in May.
“No cases shall be filed in any court of the country against the President and Vice President while in office or after retirement for their acts done as the head or deputy head of state,” reads Clause 16 of the bill. It, however, does not prohibit cases against them for their acts committed while not in service.
The legislation proposes Rs150,450 as the President’s monthly salary and Rs108,030 for the Vice President. Both of them will be paid Rs3,300 in daily allowance for visits within the country and $250 for trips abroad. They will have insurance coverage of Rs2.5 million each. The President’s Secretariat will have 18 officials led by a government secretary and 11 under a secretary at the VP’s secretariat.
