Democracy fighter Das critically ill
Aug 1, 2017-
Democracy fighter Sudishta Lal Das has been hospitalised after kidney failure. Das, 75, from Bara, who has been with the Nepali Congress since 1959, has been undergoing regular dialysis at Nidan Hospital, Pulchowk for the last six months.
Das led a labour movement launched at the initiation of the Nepali Congress at Birgunj Sugar Factory in 1967. He has been associated with the country’s democracy movement ever since.
He was jailed for three years for his political association by the then regime. He spent seven years in political exile in India.
Das was elected the central secretary of Nepal Trade Union Congress after the restoration of democracy in 1990. He is the senior vice-president of the BP Thought Academy and a member of the Nepali Congress Bara constituency-2 committee.
“I spent most of my life for the party’s cause, but I have not got any support from the party,” said Das. “It hurts when party leaders fail to show concern when one of its active members is in urgent medical care.
