The Jajarkot District Court has sentenced Nepal Police Head Costable Kamal Sunar to life imprisonment with confiscation of properties after he was found guilty of murder.

The single bench of district Judge Lila Raj Adhikari on Sunday passed the verdict against Kamal after he was convicted of murdering 24-year-old Radhika Sunar of Bherimalika Municipality-4 in the district.

The victim’s brother Gobinda Sunar filed a case against Kamal on rape and subsequent murder charge. The court, however, acquitted him on rape charge as there were no proofs of the crime in postmortem and medical reports.  Kamal, who had been posted at Jajarkot District Police Office, hacked Radhika to death on February 3. Her mutilated body was recovered from a forest some two kilometres from her house. The perpetrator was suspected to have killed Radhika after committing rape as the body was found naked.

The victim’s husband is a Nepal Army soldier. A police investigation showed that she had an extra-marital affair with Kamal.
