Artist Bhavika Dugar’s first solo exhibition, Layering the City, opened at the Siddhartha Art Gallery (SAG) in the Capital on July 30. The exhibition features a collection, 17 pieces in total, of lithography and wood prints.

Artist Dugar, who is currently studying Studio Art in the US, said that with the exhibition she has tried to create a looking-glass of sorts, entirely from her personal perspective.

“It represents the multiple facets of this city that many times go unnoticed... At first glance, the city’s dynamics might look at rest; whereas it is only after exploring its nooks and crannies do the different interactions of these layers stand out. In my exhibition, I have a series of Monoprints that have multiple layers of images—which lithography and woodcut have allowed me to amplify the effect of,” Dugar said.

Speaking about the exhibit, director of SAG, Sangeeta Thapa, said, “Dugar’s exhibit explores her deep connection with Nepal, its heritages and monuments. Although she is very young, her artworks are polished and represent Kathmandu and her relationship with the country in an artistic way.” Prior to this, Dugar has collaborated with artist Kabi Raj Lama, another artist who delves into lithography and woodcrafts.

Layering the City, currently on at Siddhartha Art Gallery, will continue through August 10.
