Sagar Chaudhary, 17, died after drowning in the rain-fed Bhadihawa stream in Banganga Municipality-11. Police said Chaudhary was swept away by the currents while attempting to rescue his buffalo trapped in the flooded stream.
Similarly, the swollen Bisahawa stream killed Pushte Sunar, 50, at Vijayapur Rural Municipality-1. Another Netra Sunar is missing in the incident. The duo was carried away by the stream while trying to wade across, police said.
In Shivaraj Municipality-9, eight-year-old Sandip BK drowned in the Surai stream. Water levels in various rivers and rivulets in the district have increased due to continuous rainfall for past two days.
Meanwhile, more than 50 houses were inundated due to heavy rainfall in Nawalparasi district. Sunawal, Bhumahi and Parasi, among other places, were greatly affected by floods. Vehicular movement was obstructed for about two hours at Bardaghat section along the East-West Highway on Thursday after floodwaters submerged the road surface.
Chief District Officer Udaya Bahadur Rana said the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee was maintaining high alert after the incidents of floods.
Woman drowns in Bhaktapur
A woman died after being swept away by the flooded Thado stream in Suryabinayak Municipality-4, Bhaktapur, on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as 56-year-old Satyabati Khadka. Police said Khadka might have been carried away by by the currents while trying to cross the flooded stream.
Her body was recovered at Suryabinayak Munici-pality-7.
