Bodies of three missing people were recovered in Nawalparasi and Kanchanpur districts while dozens of houses and land areas are inundated in several places. The flooded Phalakhu stream in Nuwakot swept away six suspension bridges.
In Nawalparasi, security personnel and locals on Saturday recovered the bodies of two people who had gone missing in the floods at the Palhinandan Rural Municipality-3 on Friday. Krishnu Gupta, 11, and Brijalal Gupta, 51, were found dead in the area, said police. However, the whereabouts of a local who went missing in the flooded Khajura stream are still unknown.
Tilak Air, 39, was found dead on the banks of the Doda river at Lalajhadi-4 in Kanchanpur district. He was washed away while crossing the flooded river on Friday.
In Rasuwa, the floods triggered by incessant rains in Phalakhu stream destroyed six suspension bridges at Naukunda Rural Municipality and Betrawati on Friday night. The bridges at Sipchong, Yubra, Ghichet, Chilaune Gaun, Sangchaur and Betrawati do not exist, said police. The flooded stream also damaged hectares of paddy fields on its banks.
In Kailali’s Tikapur, some settlements at Bhajani Municipality are still waterlogged. According to Mayor Sher Bahadur Chaudhary, the settlements in Sonahaphata, Lalbojhi, Kadhadhik and Krishnanagar are still submerged. The municipality and other organisations provided foodstuff to the affected people. However, floodwaters are receding in Tikapur Municipality and Janaki Rural Municipality.
Hundreds of houses were inundated as the floods in the local rivers and rivulets entered the settlements on Friday. The displaced people have been staying on dry spots on the Postal Highway.
In Myagdi, a 25-year-old man sustained injuries as he was hit in a rock fall along the Beni-Jomsom road stretch on Saturday. Ujjwal Pathak of Kathmandu-5 was injured
as the boulder fell on him at the Annapurna Rural Municipality-3, said police. He is receiving care at the Tatopani Sub-health Post.
