Water level on Babai and Karnali has increased after the incessant rains of Thursday and Friday. People living close to the settlements on the Babai riverbanks have started contacting the meteorological forecasting centre, police and local administration for safety.
Each year, people of Gulariya, Barbardiya and Thakurbaba Municipality are hit by flooded rivers. Punsaba Tharu of Walapur in Gulariya-5 said he could not sleep well during nights after rainfall. Saukat Ali Gaddi of Indrapur in Gulariya-11 said they
live under constant threat every monsoon. The local administration has warned of floods in the riverside settlements.
People of Panditpur, Prayagpur, Walapur, Pashuhat, Thapuwa, Indrapur, Thapuwa and Latkaniya have been terrorised after the warning.
Hundreds of bighas of land have been eroded by the flooded rivers in the past. Locals said Gulariya, Madhuban, Barbardiya and Thakurbaba areas run the risk of erosion.
At least 32 people were killed and 90,000 families affected in the region by floods in August 2014.
