Syangja schools shut over swine

Schools in Syangja have been closed for a week over swine flu scare. As many as 17 educational institutions in and around the bazaar area of Waling and Bhirkot municipalities have been shut.
After the death of a person in Waling, 20 samples were sent for laboratory tests to Kathmandu recently and of them five had tested positive for swine flu virus, causing a panic situation in the region.
“Schools have been closed until August 12 after holding consultation with the concerned stakeholders in view of the current situation,”
said Bharat Prasad Bagale, an official at the District Education Office (DEO). “The DEO has given permission to shut the schools for a week after an understanding that the missed classes would be compensated during holidays.”
