Three persons perished and another is feared dead in a Sunday night’s landslide at Uttargaya Rural Municipility-4 in Rasuwa.
The landslide that struck at around 9pm destroyed 15 houses at Pairebesi area, killing Muna Thapa Magar, 30, her four-year-old son Rabin and Bhakta Bahadur Nagarkoti. Their bodies were recovered on Monday.
Muna’s father-in-law Dharma Bahadur Nagarkoti, 75, is missing in the landslide, Chief District Officer Chomendra Neupane said.
Four others were rescued alive from the landslide debris. Binda Thapa, who was found critically injured, was taken to Trishuli Hospital in Nuwakot for treatment while the other three were admitted to a local health facility.
A joint team of the Nepal Army, the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force has been mobilised to search for the missing and rescue the landslide-affected families to safety.
At least 21 families in Pairebesi have been displaced because of the landslide. Threat posed by landslides has also prompted an evacuation of around 40 homes at nearby Kuwapani settlement.
The displaced families would be sheltered temporarily at the building of Karmidanda Health Post and on the properties owned by Trishuli Hydropower Project, CDO Neupane said.
He added that the displaced families were given foodstuffs, blankets and utensils, among others, as immediate relief while the 15 families, who lost their homes in the landslide, also got Rs 10,000 each as emergency fund.
The Pairebesi landslide also cut off the water supply to Bidur, the district headquarters of Nuwakot.
The landslide damaged the infrastructure of a water supply project built for Bidur residents. More than 2,300 households have been directly hit after the landslide disrupted the water supply.
