‘Drug dealer’ dies in shootout with cops

Senior Superintendent of Police Dinesh Amatya said Prabin Khatri died in the encounter when a team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division raided his house following a tip-off that he possessed drugs and firearms.
Khatri, who saw police personnel on his house compound, allegedly jumped off a window and fired the first shot, prompting police to fire retaliatory shots.
SSP Amatya said Khatri fell in the encounter and he was taken to Patan Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“Khatri died of bullet that had hit his right temple. However, it is not immediately known if he died of bullet fired by police or of self-inflicted gunshot wound,” SSP Amatya said, adding two pistols were recovered from Khatri. Police say Khatri was a major drug dealer opearating inside Kathmandu Valley and was put under surveillance for the past few days.
