Foundation stone laid for Ministry building

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a new building for the Ministry of Defence on the premises of Singha Durbar.
The construction is expected to complete in the next three years.
The Ministry of Defence is operating from the Secretariat of the National Security Council after the April 2015 earthquake caused severe damage to its building.
The estimated cost of the new building with 105 rooms is Rs 193 million and it is being constructed through the Singha Durbar Secretariat Reconstruction Committee under the Ministry of Urban Development. It will have an emergency exit, a lift and fire extinguishing system.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, PM Deuba directed the authorities concerned to execute the assigned responsibilities and remain alert about timely construction of the infrastructure. He also instructed to meet all the set standards while implementing the project. Skilled human resources, appropriate technology and physical infrastructure are required to take the bureaucracy forward as per the changing context of time, he said.
Minister for Defence Bhimsen Das Pradhan, Foreign Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Home Minister Janardan Sharma, Chief of Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri were also present on the occasion.
