Cross-party leaders and cadres have also been directed to supervise rescue operations and distribution of relief to flood and landslide victims across the country.
As well as urging the government to expedite the rescue operations and provide relief to the victims in the flood hit districts, the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has instructed its leaders and cadres to go the affected districts to lend a hand in rescue and relief operations.
“Party urges its local bodies and sister organisations to help in rescue operations and provide compensation to the victims,” the NC said a statement on Sunday.
The NC’s Central Working Committee (CWC) has decided to contribute one month’s salary of party’s lawmakers to flood affected people.
Having opened a bank account with Nepal Bank Limited, the party has appealed individuals and organisations for their contribution for the cause.
“Industrialists, businessmen and people from various walks of life can deposit an amount into the account number 0135-11-0010075,” said the party.
The Congress’ main coalition alliance CPN (Maoist Centre) has expressed grief over the loss of lives and property due to floods and landslides.
The party has also directed its leaders and cadres to be involved in rescue operations and provide relief to flood victims.
Following party’s directives, leaders and cadres have already started heading towards the affected areas, according to Maoist Centre leaders.
The main opposition CPN-UML has demanded prompt and effective rescue and relief measures in the flood-affected areas.
The party has instructed its leaders and cadres to be deployed in the affected areas for rescue operations, says a UML statement issued by General Secretary Ishwar Pokhrel.
The party has decided to send 14 teams out to the flood affected districts for the purpose.
The UML has also requested India to open all sluice gates at the Koshi barrage to prevent further damage.
The UML is of the view that as infrastructure constructed by Indian side along the border is causing floods and inundation and that those issues should be resolved through the diplomatic channel.
“There should be a long-term approach to resolve such problems,” said the party. The Naya Shakti Party-Nepal has decided to collect relief materials to aid flood victims.
The party has formed an internal committee to coordinate the collection of relief materials.
“The committee will collect relief and transport it to affected areas in coordination with the government agencies,” the party said in a press statement.
