Bhuimanchhe to dissect ‘fresh themes’
Director Nawaraj Budhathoki’s second feature film, Bhuimanchhe, is slated to hit theatres this Friday, August 18.Director Nawaraj Budhathoki’s second feature film, Bhuimanchhe, is slated to hit theatres this Friday, August 18.
The movie Bhuimaanchhe is hyped to bring to screen a seldom-explored story, of a middle-aged man who unwillingly becomes a Forensic Pathologist, who dissects dead bodies in a lab. But his life takes a detour when he comes across a young girl, who happens to be his neighbour. The relationship between the two, Budhathoki informed, gives the films its major plot.
The idea for the film was first conceived when Budhathoki came across a newspaper article, a profile on a forensic pathology surgeon. “When I read the article, I was struck by the life the surgeon lived. He had to
deal with dead bodies, day in and day out. It occurred to me that if one could go under the skin of the surgeon, exploring his psychology, it would make a good film with fresh themes that have yet to be attempted in Nepali cinema,” director Budhathoki said.
In his second venture into the silver screen, Budhathoki, who has worked at Nepali theatre as director for about two decades (directing plays such as Sarkari Nirikshyak and Chiso Yatra, among others), has introduced several faces familiar in Nepali theatre. “There are subtle differences between directing plays and a cinema. In theatre, the actions are a bit exagerrated, while in cinema, a actor should go about portraying a role with subtlely. We have paid attention in bringing out the best from actors,” Budhathoki said.
Budhathoki’s debut feature, Banfool, starring the veteran actor-director Sunil Pokharel and Mahesh Shrestha, is yet to release.
Bhuimanchhe features actor Ramesh Budhathoki and athlete-cum-actress Sipora Gurung in the lead roles. Performing alongside are actors Badal Bhatta, Sahin Prajapati, Rohini Bhattarai, Puskar Gurung and Tara KC, Ram Babu Regmi, Nabin Shrestha, Sanu Tamrakaar, and Shashank Bohara.
